What a weekend! Friday night I went to bed and couldn't wait to get to the shower and see everyone. I woke up around 1:45 AM itching on my hands, legs and belly. I had weps on my belly. I woke Danny up and started googling pregnancy itching. It stated some pretty scary stuff so I called the Dr. office. I got the on call nurse and she told me to take some Benedryl. So, I took that and went back to bed. I got up and got ready for the shower and felt fine the whole time. Once I got to the church I started itching again under my arms and around my breast. The longer I sat there the more I broke out and itched. I managed to get all of my wonderful gifts opened. I got some great stuff!!! I finally called the Dr again and got the same on call nurse. She told me to go to Labor and Delivery at Glenwood. So my Mom drove me and Danny met us there (he had been at work). When I walked in and told them what was going on, they acted like I was retarded for coming to labor and delivery. One lady said, "We don't treat rashes." I was so upset! Finally they saw how bad my "rash" was and called the on call Dr. which was Dr. Wilson. He told them to send me to the ER. I sat in the ER room and talked to a couple of nurses and a PA. They all asked me the same stuff, have I changed soap or detergent, etc. Nothing! Finally they ordered me an IV of Benedryl, a steroid and some pepcid. After poking me in three different veins and blowing one of them up, they finally got the IV started. When the IV was going I asked if there was any way I could hear Parker's heart beat. I had not felt him move a whole lot and I just wanted to be sure, ya know. They said sure, they have a doppler. So this man comes in and pokes and prods at my belly for a good 10 minutes and found nothing. He sent in another nurse who was much more gentle, but she didn't find anything either. By this time I was starting to get worried. The nurse who did my IV came back in and started trying to find it. It probably took about 15 minutes (which seemed like a lifetime) before she finally found it, but it was there. She thinks that his back was to my belly and so it made it harder to find. The machine they were using wasn't made to find a baby's heart beat, so it was harder than usual. Finally, I was on my way home. They gave me a prescription of Visteril, but I assumed that I wouldn't need it since I just had an IV of meds.
I went to bed around 9:15 and around 1:00 AM I woke up itching again. My hands and feet. I went and took a bath in Aveeno. By the time I got out of the tub, I had started wepping up again. Bonnie heard me and got up to make sure I was ok. I told her what was going on and she told me to call the Dr back. Same nurse told me that I needed to go get my prescription filled. So Bonnie and I head to Monroe Walgreen's at 2:00 AM. I got my script filled, took one on my way home and went to bed about 4:00 AM. It knocked me out! I didn't wake up until around 2:30 Sunday afternoon. I probably wouldn't have gotten up then, but Danny called to check on me. So far, I haven't had any more itching, thank God!! It was a scary ordeal and I really hope I never have to go through it again.
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful gifts and for coming to the shower. It was great to see you all!
